Hello everyone!! I have a VERY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT today and I did not want to bury it so here it is right at the top: Suck IT Consulting has a new Chief Technology Officer and his name is Dave!!

I am very pleased and also a little relieved because I have been doing everything myself since we started in 1999 and Brenda keeps saying she is "just the admin" and will not help with the strategic stuff. So Dave is going to handle the strategy. This is a big deal for the company and I want everyone to know about it.

💡 NOTE FROM DWAYNE: Dave is my cousin. I want to be transparent about this. Family businesses are very common and very successful. See also: the Corleones, although a different type of business.

About Dave — His Qualifications

I know some of you may be wondering: what are Dave's qualifications? That is a fair question and I am prepared to address it.

  • Dave has owned a Dell computer for four years
  • He knows how to use Microsoft Excel (he says)
  • He once fixed a screensaver that was stuck
  • He has watched every episode of The Computer Chronicles on PBS
  • He has a business card that says "Technology Visionary" (he made it himself in Word)
  • He is very confident

In addition to these qualifications, Dave has what I call "big picture thinking." While I focus on the day-to-day technical work (fixing computers, billing clients, monitoring servers, running the blog, answering the phones), Dave will handle the long-term strategic vision for where technology is taking us. He has some ideas. He has not shared them with me yet but he says they are "game-changing."

What Dave's Role Will Include

As CTO, Dave will be responsible for:

  • Strategic technology vision
  • Answering the phone when I am at lunch
  • Reviewing invoices (he suggested we add a "strategic advisory fee" to all invoices — good idea)
  • Representing Suck IT Consulting at the Paramus Business Networking Breakfast (I cannot go, parking is bad)
  • The cloud stuff (he says he knows about the cloud)

Dave's email address is dave@suckitconsulting.com. Please welcome him!! He starts today and is already in the office. He just moved Brenda's desk lamp to a different spot. Brenda has thoughts about this. We are working through it.

I genuinely think this is going to be a great chapter for Suck IT Consulting. With Dave's vision and my technical expertise, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. Please call us for your IT needs. Our rates have been updated. Dave updated them.

Congratulations! What does a Chief Technology Officer do exactly. Also why did my invoice go up $75 this month.

Hi Carol!! A CTO handles high-level technology strategy and vision. Dave is already working on several initiatives. Re: the $75 — that is the new Strategic Advisory Fee which Dave added to all accounts. It covers the cost of Dave's strategic advisory services. You are welcome to discuss this with Dave directly at dave@suckitconsulting.com. He is very responsive.

Is Dave qualified for this. That is my only question. Is Dave qualified.
